small purple flowers

It's the time of the year when everything starts growing in the garden, including all the 'weeds'.  These small purple flowers are growing in between the cracks of the paving stones so I thought I should draw them before they get tidied away.

Bologna Book Fair

This week the Lemonade Illustration Agency, who represent me, had a stand at the Bologna Book Fair. The Fair is one of the leading events for publishers, particularly in the children's book field.  Find out more about it here at http://www.bolognachildrensbookfair.com/en/home/878.html

Illustration Website

I've spent some time over the past couple of days making a 'proper' website.  It's at www.liswatkins.artspan.com and I'd welcome any thoughts or comments on how it looks so far...

The Chateau

Whilst delivering one of my prints last year, I met a lady who belonged to Croydon South Rotary Club.  She convinced me that the members would be interested in hearing about my sketchbook drawings and I was duly booked in to come along to one of their meeting at ‘The Chateau’ in a leafy part of Croydon.

I’ve never given a talk before - and it showed – but they were a very friendly bunch and made me feel most welcome.  They meet regularly, organising events and raising money for charities.

If you would like to find out more about their work, visit the Rotary website at https://www.rotary.org/ for more information.

A quick glimpse of one of the sketches I made to during filming by Turf Projects today in Croydon.  More to follow!

mask

At the street art event yesterday it was advisable to wear a mask because of the fume, so I thought I'd draw it today.

'Femme Fierce'

‘Femme Fierce’ is a street art festival currently running in London.  As part of the festival, one hundred female street artists spent today trying to break a world record for the ‘World’s Largest Spray Paint Mural’.  It took place in a tunnel in Leake Street that runs underneath Waterloo Station.

The tunnel is an authorised graffiti area and the walls had been painted with a base coat of pink before the artists started work as the event was raising money for Breast Cancer Care.

Shopping trolleys seemed to be a popular way of transporting all the equipment!

I drew in B&W in the tunnel and added some colour with Photoshop later.

You can find out more about Femme Fierce and see some of the work that was produced at their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/755611684453799/
