The second session from Rolf Scroeter focussed using your eye level to position figures in a scene. 'Post-it' notes, which we drew people on, were used to help the group understand the principles.

In the hood
Had a chance to draw a street artist at work in Penge yesterday.
Difficult as the painting is very physical and they are up and down their ladder.
Managed a quick sketch of the artist @illuzina when she took a rest to check her 'phone.
See the finished piece in Maple Road, Penge, London.

So Last Century June Vintage Fair
Went along to the 'So Last Century' vintage fair today to do some sketching. Lots of rails of clothes and hats.
Music was vintage too, with 78 records on wind up gramophones! Also some fold-up garden chairs and garden pots which looked lovely planted with cottage garden flowers.

Latest blues...
Still trying to persevere with this big painting. Think it might almost be at an end. I used masking tape to try and get crisp lines for the window grid but it wasn't successful so had to paint them by hand. Still, have learned loads about acrylics during the process.

Mask
Using masking tape to help me do some nice straight lines on my big canvas seemed a good idea. In theory...

Brighton Workshop One - Long lines and closed shapes
Thought it would be a good idea to revisit my notes and drawings from the recent Brighton Workshop as it would be so easy to forget some of the excellent advice from the tutors.
The first workshop was with Rolf Schroeter, starting with blind contour drawings of people walking by in Kensington Gardens.
Then we had to study the people but only draw without looking up.
In the final exercise, we were asked to make a scene, just using the people, no buildings or context.
